Computers are made to help us be more productive, and that is why when we look at our desktop we often see a lot of program icons. We tend to get irritated when our computers started to slow down. Computer’s hard disks are not impossible to be filled; movies, pictures, music, and applications we use in our daily lives. Most of these files are only needed once and amateurs tend to think that just by simply deleting the application icons, problems are solved. This article will show you five simple steps to clean sweep a computer without damaging your machine.

1.) Figure out which programs are unnecessary or you no longer use. If you can’t remember the purpose of the program, search for it using your favorite search engine. This will give you the background of a specific program and will help you decide whether you need it or not.

2.) After determining the programs that you no longer need. You should uninstall them to free some space in your hard disk. The easiest way to uninstall a program is by clicking the start menu, then All Programs, and then look for the program that you want to uninstall and look for the uninstall option in that folder. Restart your computer after this process if you want.

3.) If there are programs that do not have uninstall option, you can uninstall them by going to your start menu then click control panel. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, click Uninstall a Program, while for Windows XP users simply click AddRemove Programs. This will take you to another window showing all your installed programs. The programs will be displayed in alphabetical order, so you won’t have much trouble looking for an application. Click the name of the program that you want to uninstall, and then do the following; for Windows XP user click the button on the right side of the program that states Remove, as for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users click the Uninstall button. You will be taken to another window which will guide you through the un-installation process.

4.) If you, of by any chance deleted a file by accident and would like to undo the operation. Simply go to the start menu, then click All Programs or Program Files then look for Accessories, then System Tools. Look for the option System Restore. You will be taken to another window which will show you how to undo your previous operation.

5.) After un-installing all the programs that you do not need. It’s time to erase all their traces by using a registry cleaner. These traces are in your registry files and it is almost impossible to locate them manually if you are not familiar with the registry structure. If you already have a registry cleaner then you can start cleaning your registry immediately. However, if you don’t have a registry cleaner try searching for a good registry cleaner using your favorite search engine. Registry cleaners will help you delete all the traces of your uninstalled programs, fix errors in your registry and delete corrupted files. This will give you the speed you always wanted for your computer.
