Do Programs Slow Computer Down Yes and No! It Depends on Few Things

I have heard many arguments on this issue, some people claim that having too many programs slow down computer while others say that many programs do not slow down computer. So what side am I taking

It depends, please hear me out. If you have 100 programs on your computer and none of these programs has a startup item (additional processes running in the background), or a background services then these 100 programs will not slow down your computer.

On the other hand, if you have 100 programs and each of these programs has additional startup items associated with them and also has additional background service that is automatically started whenever you power on your computer, then I can tell you that those 100 programs will grind your computer to a halt.

Programs by themselves don’t slow computer down. It is the additional things they carry with them that use up the memory, even while these programs are not in use. For example if you have 100 light application like VLC player, they would not be able to slow down your computer because they do not use extra resources while they are not in use. On the other hand if you have 100 heavy applications like Norton Antivirus, your computer will be slow because of the additional services and processes they run in the background.

So I hope I have made it clear how programs slow down computer. In order to be safe, it is advised that you uninstall programs that you do not use regularly. Also keep your eyes on the startup items and 3rd party background services that may be eating away at your memory.
