Reduce the amount of programs running at startup. The problem with downloading and installing new programs is every one of them wants a quick launch toolbar or to be run automatically when Windows starts. Don’t allow it. In fact the only things that should be running (aside from necessary system files) are your firewall and spywareadwarevirus protection software. Anything else you can just access manually. To disable these useless startup programs go to StartRun type msconfig without quotes. Then select the startup tab and click the programs you do not want run automatically. Warning – Do not uncheck programs unless you know what they are! Simply type the program name in Google and you will get plenty of information on it. Clearing out these programs will speed up your computer by reducing the amount of virtual memory needed.
Uninstall unused programs. We have all installed our fair share of programs were thought sounded great but just end up collecting dust on our virtual shelves. Not only do they take up space but they slow our computer down as well. Bottom line – if you don’t use it, then lose it! Go to Start Control Panel Software Add or Remove Programs.
